Eddie Murphy Raw
The record-setting number one concert film, EDDIE MURPHY: RAW shows Eddie Murphy doing what he does best: making people laugh. Filmed live at New York's Felt Forum, Murphy delights, shocks, and entertains with celebrity impersonations, observations on 'love, sex and marriage in the 80's, a remembrance of Mom's hamburgers and much more.
The audacious concert film Eddie Murphy Raw rubbed some people the wrong way upon its release in 1987, but there's no denying that between Murphy's more insensitive bits about women and gay men is some of his most inspired material. While the young comedian indulges an unattractive homophobia and rants about the sexual manipulativeness of all females, he makes up for it with an amazing story about being chided by Bill Cosby for obscene humor and does a great impression of Mr. T falling under the spell of a Jedi mind trick. The best stuff comes deep into the show, particularly a long tale of being pressured into a fight at a club, resulting in a phone call to Murphy's drunk father, the latter in the middle of a verbal attack on his wife. The scene is genuinely horrifying and funny, testament to Murphy's early reputation as heir to Richard Pryor's mercilessly autobiographical brilliance. --Tom Keogh
(photographers note: Occasionally, I get into a strange literary funk, where I feel an overwhelming need to write. This is one of those rare occasions.)
This is a very special camera.
The camera above is a Canon TX 35mm film camera. Manual focus, manual metering, manual advance. Nothing on this camera is automatic.
Why so special? It's the camera I learned photography with. When I was young my father would lend me this camera with a few rolls of Kodak Tri-X, and he'd take me along on weddings, car shows, or sometimes just to the lake. It was at these places I learned the basics of photography; lighting, exposure, focus, depth of field, composition. Then, at the end, I'd have 3 or 4 small grey canisters of exposed film ready for developing.
The darkroom was an equally fascinating art for a young boy. The room itself was dark, save for one dim red light. The most vivid memories in the near dark environment were tactile. The pop of the reusable film canister coming apart; ratcheting the negative strip onto a holder for developing; gently rocking a tray of stop bath or fixer.
The last pictures it took were of a snow covered Brooklyn Heights back in 2001 or so. Soon it was succeeded by a digital camera, again, a gift from my father. It now sits unused of a shelf in my closet. While camera itself is still quite functional, the film it uses has largely been abandoned.
Today, everything is digital. The Canon S3IS sitting in front is fully automatic, will instantly show me the picture I just took, hold thousands of frames, highly programmable, and even can play games. My darkroom is a small laptop loaded with various image processing software. Despite all the technology, somehow the magic and awe of photography is still there. Every time I press the shutter, it takes me back.
I'm that young boy again with a very special camera.

Purse Camera Bag - DIY
I've always wanted to make a purse into a camera bag, but didn't have the right materials. When my mac was shipped to my house after repair, it came with 2 giant sheets of foam and 1 smaller sheet.
It fits my 60D with a 28-300mm lens, 2 prime lenses, memory cards, spare battery, body cap, and cleaning cloth. (I'll make another video of the 60D with a prime on, and the tamron on the side. It all still fits.)
Now instead of lugging a big rectangular camera bag (that looks like a picnic cooler...), I can carry my camera stylishly! The foam is about an inch thick, so it'll withstand a beating.

Slightly updated... Taken earlier this year just before a trip to Canada. My previous camera bag/contents shots have practically had more views than all my other photos combined so it seems it is something that fascinates people... Please give me a shout if you have any questions about any of this gear.
Worth noting, you can't quite fit everything shown here in the bag, but not far off it!
